The NBA has recently seen an evolution in the way big men play the game. While centers and power forwards found offensive success around the basket in the past, they were not usually known for shooting ability from range. That has seen a change with the current generation, as big men have shown more of an all-around skillset. Anthony Davis is among those who have led the charge in this change in the game. The 2012 number one overall pick in the NBA Draft grew up smaller than the other kids, playing guard and shooting threes. However, an eight-inch growth spurt between his freshman and junior years of high school had him on track to play down low, even though he still shared guard responsibilities in high school. At 6ft 10in in his lone college season at the University of Kentucky, Davis dominated on both sides of the ball, especially defense with 4.7 blocks per game, on the way to a national championship. Coming into the NBA with high expectations, he used his guard skills to develop his offensive game to what it is today. Now with a 24.2 point per game average in his career, Davis increased his 3-point shooting in his fourth season and has consistently shot over 25% from beyond the arc in almost every season since � something that used to be unheard of for a player his size. His best 3-point shooting year came in 2019-20, where he made 1.2 three pointers per game on 33% shooting, to go with 26.1 points per game on the way to his first NBA Championship.
